Description

This masterpiece teapot is handcrafted from Luqing celadon — one of the world’s four great celadons and ranks first among them. Originating in the Song Dynasty, Luqing celadon was successfully revived in 1972 in Zibo, Shandong. It is made from talc and fired at temperatures exceeding 1300°C in a reduction flame, creating a glaze of translucent, jade-like quality known as “blue sky and white cloud”.

The materiail of Celadon Teapot— A Kiln History of a Thousand Years

Luqing celadon carries a kiln legacy that spans over a thousand years. In 1982, a Luqing carved porcelain desk set won the gold medal at the 34th Munich International Handicrafts Fair in Germany — the first international gold medal won by Chinese ceramic art since the founding of the People’s Republic of China. In 1987, talc-based Luqing celadon won another gold medal at the “Eureka” International Invention Expo in Brussels, Belgium.

The renowned poet and Buddhist master Zhao Pucho once wrote in praise after visiting Luqing celadon:
“Lustrous and radiant, the Luqing porcelain — as if held by celestial hands.”

Luqing celadon has also been presented as a national gift to foreign dignitaries and has been used in prestigious venues including the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, Beijing Hotel, and Guangzhou White Swan Hotel.

The craft of Celadon Teapot surfaceThe Art of Porcelain Engraving

Porcelain engraving is an ancient art form that originated in Zibo during the Qing Dynasty (1776). The earliest surviving examples are held in the Beijing Palace Museum and the Taipei Palace Museum. By the late Qing Dynasty, master engravers such as Hua Fa, Zhu Youlin, and Chen Zhiguang emerged, and their works were treasured by nobles and officials in the imperial court.

This teapot features a hand-engraved orchid motif — a symbol of elegance, refinement, and scholarly integrity in Chinese culture. The artisan carves each delicate line with precision, using nothing but a few engraving tools and a small hammer. The orchid design flows naturally across the celadon surface, its subtle lines complementing the jade-like glaze. Porcelain engraving integrates painting, calligraphy, and seal carving into a single discipline. The engraved lines are permanent — one misplaced stroke cannot be erased.
