Description
Celadon Plate: World-Famous Millennium Kiln Legacy
Among China’s premier ceramic traditions, the celadon plate crafted from authentic Luqing celadon holds an unsurpassed global reputation, recognized alongside Longquan, Korean, and Japanese celadons as one of the world’s four great celadons. Originating in the Song Dynasty and revived in Zibo, Shandong, in 1972, this rare talc-based porcelain is fired at over 1,300°C in a reduction atmosphere, producing a translucent, jade-like green glaze known historically as “Blue Sky and White Cloud.”
In 1982, a Luqing carved porcelain set earned the Gold Medal at the 34th Munich International Handicrafts Fair in Germany—marking the first international gold medal for Chinese ceramic art since 1949.

Custom Human Portraits (Family & Corporate Heirlooms): Ideal for elder portraits, family ancestry commemoration, corporate founders, diplomatic state gifts, and milestone anniversaries.
-
Custom Pet Portraits (Cherished Companions): Immortalize the gaze and character of beloved dogs or cats onto jade-like celadon, creating a permanent, physical tribute that resists fading or degradation.
High-Technical Precision: Engraved Porcelain vs. Heat Transfer Printing
Creating a custom portrait on a celadon plate represents the pinnacle of Zibo glaze carving:
| Artistic Dimension | Hand-Engraved Luqing Celadon Plate | Ordinary Heat Transfer Printing Plate |
| Craft Process | Hundreds of thousands of knife cuts into the fired glaze, followed by permanent pigment sealing | Surface decal film printed onto glaze; flat with zero depth |
| Durability | Decades to centuries; completely UV-resistant, moisture-proof, and anti-oxidative | Fades, yellows, scratches, and peels off within a few years |
| Uniqueness & Value | 100% bespoke master artwork; provincial intangible cultural heritage value | Mass-produced industrial batch product with zero investment value |
| Tactile Experience | Jade-like luster combined with 3D engraved texture and dynamic light reflections | Rigid, flat glossy reflection with blurred photographic details |
Core Technical Difficulties
Executing a portrait on a hard, brittle celadon plate requires decades of muscle memory and extreme wrist stability:
-
Irreversible Zero-Error Glaze Layer: The celadon glaze is only 0.3–1mm thick. A single heavy hammer strike shatters the plate, ruining weeks of work with zero room for correction.
-
Mastery of Facial Expression & Light: Capturing character spirit, eye resonance, skin tones, and hair gradients requires over 100,000 precision point-carvings using microscopic steel chisels.
-
Pigment Sealing & Permanent Color: Color pigment is meticulously rubbed into the engraved cuts and permanently sealed, preventing blooming, fading, or color layer confusion over time.
Prestigious Application & Display Scenarios
At a commanding 40cm diameter, accompanied by a solid rosewood display stand, this celadon plate serves as an authoritative centerpiece:
