Description

Artisans craft this tea spoon scoop using Wei County Hammered Copper — a traditional Chinese metalworking craft passed down through generations in Weifang, Shandong. During the Qing Dynasty, Weifang was home to “two hundred red furnaces and three thousand copper craftsmen” — a scale that speaks to the mastery behind every piece. In 2020, this craft was recognized as a municipal intangible cultural heritage of Weifang.

One Sheet, Tens of Thousands of Strikes

The craft tea spoon scoop follows a principle called “one-sheet forging.” The artisan starts with a single piece of high-purity copper. Through repeated heating and hammering — tens of thousands of strikes — the metal gradually takes its final shape. The process includes blank forging, design sketching, cutting, shaping, annealing, forming, and polishing. Historically, this technique was known as “hammering and shaping.”

Tea spoon scoop with Leaf Form Design — Inspired by Nature

The tea spoon scoop takes the shape of a natural leaf, with gentle curves and a subtle taper toward the tip. The organic silhouette fits comfortably in the hand. The shallow concave surface holds tea leaves perfectly, while the natural form brings a sense of calm to the tea ceremony.

Hammered Texture — A Signature of the Maker

The distinctive hammered surface is achieved through thousands of carefully placed strikes. The overlapping hammer marks — known as “hammer grain” — create a subtle play of light and shadow across the surface. No two pieces are identical, as the hammered pattern is as unique as a fingerprint.

A Living Finish — Copper That Ages with Grace

With regular use, the copper surface naturally develops a warm patina. This living finish deepens over time, recording the passage of years and the touch of your hand. Each piece is unique — the hammer marks, the leaf form, and the natural evolution of the patina all work together to ensure that no two scoops are exactly alike.

The Function — An Essential Tea Tool

The tea spoon scoop is an essential tool in the Gongfu tea ceremony. It measures and transfers tea leaves from the canister to the teapot. Its curved surface holds just the right amount of tea for a single brew. The flat base rests securely on the tea table without tipping.
