Luqing Celadon Vase (Yang Guifei Figure Carving) — Masterpiece Edition

Description

Luqing Celadon Vase: World-Famous Millennium Kiln Legacy

Among China’s premier ceramic traditions, the Luqing celadon vase holds an unsurpassed global reputation, recognized alongside Longquan, Korean, and Japanese celadons as one of the world’s four great celadons. Originating in the Song Dynasty and successfully revived in Zibo, Shandong, in 1972, this rare talc-based porcelain is fired at over 1,300°C in a reduction atmosphere, producing a translucent, jade-like green glaze known historically as “Blue Sky and White Cloud.”

In 1982, a Luqing carved porcelain set earned the Gold Medal at the 34th Munich International Handicrafts Fair in Germany—marking the first international gold medal for Chinese ceramic art since 1949.

Pictorial Theme: Yang Guifei — The “Flower-Shaming Beauty”

Carved using Zibo’s national intangible cultural heritage porcelain-engraving technique, this Luqing celadon vase renders the iconic Tang Dynasty consort Yang Guifei (Yang Yuhuan):

• The Legend of “Shaming the Flowers” (Xiu Hua / 羞花): Celebrated as the epitome of Tang dynasty refinement, legend tells that flowers bowed their petals in awe when Yang Guifei passed through imperial gardens. She represents the vibrant renewal of spring and the timeless ideal of “plumpness as beauty” (Huan Fei Yan Shou).

• Masterful Cold-Chisel Craftsmanship: Using specialized steel chisels and miniature hammers, the master artist executes thousands of permanent point-and-line cuts directly onto the fired glaze. Guided by the principle of “using the knife as the brush” (Yi Dao Dai Bi), the engraving captures flowing silk ribbons, elaborate court headdresses, and serene facial expressions.

Feng Shui Symbolism: Love, Prosperity & Domestic Tranquility

In classical Feng Shui and luxury interior curation, this Luqing celadon vase carries dual auspicious blessings:

• The Vessel of Peace (Ping’an / 平安): The classic tall vase silhouette (Píng, 瓶) acts as a homophone for peace (Píng, 平), anchoring living spaces with stability, emotional balance, and protective energy.

• Romance & Marital Devotion: Inspired by Li Bai’s famous imperial poetry (“Famous flowers and the beloved, two beauties together”), placing Yang Guifei’s imagery in master bedroom suites or central living halls nurtures affection, romance, and enduring domestic harmony.
