Luqing Celadon Porcelain Vase (Opera Figures) — Masterpiece Edition

Description

Celadon Porcelain Vase: World-Famous Millennium Kiln Legacy

Among China’s premier ceramic traditions, the celadon porcelain vase crafted from authentic Luqing celadon holds an unsurpassed global reputation, recognized alongside Longquan, Korean, and Japanese celadons as one of the world’s four great celadons. Originating in the Song Dynasty and revived in Zibo, Shandong, in 1972, this rare talc-based porcelain is fired at over 1,300°C in a reduction atmosphere, producing a translucent, jade-like green glaze known historically as “Blue Sky and White Cloud.”

In 1982, a Luqing carved porcelain set earned the Gold Medal at the 34th Munich International Handicrafts Fair in Germany—marking the first international gold medal for Chinese ceramic art since 1949.

Innovative Lantern Flat Flask Form (Goose-Egg Vessel)

Standing 40cm tall, this celadon porcelain vase features the modern innovative lantern-shaped flat flask form (Goose-Egg Flat Flask / 鵝蛋扁瓶), developed exclusively by Zibo master ceramicists:

• High-Difficulty Firing Profile: The laterally flattened, full rounded front belly presents extreme technical firing challenges—flat forms easily sag, warp, or crack during 1,300°C high-heat vitrification, resulting in a remarkably low kiln yield.

• Expansive Frontal Canvas: The flat, sweeping frontal surface provides a broad, unhindered canvas ideal for intricate portrait carving and calligraphy inscriptions.

• Cabinet & Display Suite Fit: Occupying minimal lateral depth, its slim profile fits gracefully onto curio cabinets, tea-room shelves, and mantle console tables.

Pictorial Masterpiece: Opera Figures & Point-Carving Stippling

Carved using Zibo’s national intangible cultural heritage porcelain-engraving technique, this celadon porcelain vase renders classic Chinese operatic heritage directly onto the hard glaze:

• Du Liniang (The Peony Pavilion): Depicts a refined Peking Opera Huadan (Guimendan role) holding a folding fan, evoking the poetic grace of classical Eastern theater.

• Intricate Stippling Technique (以刀代筆/點刻法): Rather than brush painting, the master artist chisels dense, minute stippled dots into the fired glaze using steel chisels and miniature hammers. This method creates subtle gradations of light and shadow, seamlessly fusing seal engraving with ceramic portraiture.

Feng Shui Blessing: Cultural Refinement & Domestic Peace

In classical Feng Shui and refined interior design, this opera figure celadon porcelain vase serves as a focal point of high artistic vibration:

• Peace & Tranquility (Ping’an / 平安): The vessel form (Píng, 瓶) acts as an anchor for household safety, emotional balance, and family stability.

• Scholarly & Intellectual Inspiration: Placed in private studies, reading suites, or executive offices, the theatrical artwork inspires creative focus, literary appreciation, and cultural prestige.
