Description
Artisans craft this tea scoops using Laiwu tin sculpture — a traditional Chinese metalworking craft that dates back to 1676. During the Qianlong era, the craft became a tribute to the imperial court. Historical records show that when Emperor Qianlong’s daughter married into the noble family of Qufu, the wedding tinware came from Laiwu. In 2008, Laiwu tin sculpture joined the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of China.
Tea scoops with 99.9% Pure Tin — A Noble Material for Tea
This tea scoops uses tin with a purity of 99.9%. The metal contains no additives, which preserves its natural properties as a green metal. The finished piece is “silver in color, mirror-bright in finish, and bell-clear in sound” — a standard that has remained unchanged for over three hundred years.
Tin does not oxidize or discolor easily. It has no metallic odor. It is safe and non-toxic. These qualities make it an ideal material for tea utensils.
Square Leaf Design — Nature Meets Geometry
The scoop takes the form of a square leaf. The square outline provides a stable, balanced grip. The leaf-inspired silhouette adds a touch of organic elegance. This combination creates a piece that is both tactile and visually striking.
Hand-Engraved Details — A Signature of the Artisan
Each scoop features hand-engraved details that follow the natural flow of a leaf. The artisan carves the surface with precision, creating subtle textures that catch the light. No two pieces are identical — each one carries the unique mark of its maker.
The Function — An Essential Tea Tool
The tea scoops is an essential tool in the Gongfu tea ceremony. It measures and transfers tea leaves from the canister to the teapot. Its curved surface holds just the right amount of tea for a single brew. The flat base rests securely on the tea table without tipping.
