This tea canister is crafted through the ancient art of Laiwu tin sculpture (莱芜锡雕) — a traditional Chinese metalworking craft that originated in 1676 during the Qing Dynasty and reached its peak in the Qianlong era, when it was designated as a tribute to the imperial court. In 2008, Laiwu tin sculpture was inscribed on the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of China.

The Design — Mount Tai and Baotu Spring

The surface of this tea canister is hand-engraved with two of Shandong’s most iconic cultural landmarks:

Mount Tai (泰山) — known as the “Most Revered of the Five Sacred Mountains” , Mount Tai has been the site of imperial ceremonies for over two thousand years. Emperors ascended its peak to offer sacrifices to heaven and earth, making it the spiritual anchor of Chinese civilization. Associated with sunrise, birth, and renewal, Mount Tai embodies the Chinese ideals of stability, longevity, and harmony between heaven and humanity.

Baotu Spring (趵突泉) — renowned as the “Number One Spring Under Heaven” , a title bestowed by Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty. Located in Jinan, the “City of Springs,” Baotu Spring is the most famous of the city’s 72 springs. Its three powerful jets of clear water burst from underground, creating the spectacular scene known as “Baotu Tenging” (Leaping and Gushing).
