Li Yu of the Qing dynasty wrote in his Li Weng Mi Shu (Secret Writings of Li Weng): “For storing tea, only tin should be used,” because tinware “does not allow the escape of aroma.” There were also ancient sayings: “Tin is suitable for all teas” and “Tea should be stored in tin bottles; then its color and fragrance will remain as fresh as ever, even after a year.” From this, it is clear that in the eyes of the ancients, tinware was the preferred choice for tea storage, holding a status even higher than the commonly used porcelain jars of the time.
